Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Fund Raising Event- Canning City FC

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Fund Raising Event

On the Saturday before Christmas 2021 Canning City FC hosted a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle at the Willetton Store. At 8.00am sharp Floyd Monteiro started the BBQ and it kept going until 4.00pm when the last of 410 sausages was sold. It is hard to believe having experienced the hottest Christmas period on record that the day was rather mild so drinks were not in high demand with only 60% of the available stock being sold.

Bunnings requires the Sausage Sizzle Stand to be manned by five volunteers at all times with each volunteer being assigned one of the following roles: BBQ Captain, Greeter, Order Taker, Cook and Money Collector. A total of 42 volunteers from all parts of the club stepped forward to help out. It was great to see players, parents and club supporters all mixing together to promote both the Club and the World Game.

Some notable events during the day were:
  • Rado explaining to everyone the sausage buns were pre-cut and the sight of relief from everyone
  • A player learning how to cut onions for the first time!
  • Gabby combining the roles of cook and saleswoman to great effect
  • Ian Grant trying to give Avi’s Dad (a Leeds supporter) some hope following their 7-0 defeat from Man City
A big thanks to everyone who helped out on the day, but I would like to make special thanks to Nikki Palmer and Jude Peppin whose leadership before the day made the whole thing possible.
